Round-up of the week

That sounds like I’m going to report on some successful cattle handling, doesn’t it? Sorry to disappoint you, it’s nothing so exotic.

This week has been a tough one. I’d rather not go into details (yes, all the problems were technological, and yes, they were my fault) but suffice to say I’d rather not have another week like this one any time soon. Still, there have been good points, too.

I’ve (finally) managed to install Ubuntu Studio on my main machine. It wasn’t as easy as I hoped, as the DVD I burned from their installation file didn’t work. So I ended up loading Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) then doing the package dance to upgrade.

So far it seems to work fine, although I admit I’ve done nothing yet except load a few extra packages I need and check JACK starts. It looks great, but I do think they need a few more desktop wallpapers as the default selection is a bit limited.

Anyway, I’m currently immersing myself in a large glass of whisky to help wash away the pain of earlier in the week. More regular entries may, or may not, be forthcoming.

Big business, big attitude

I felt this dubious exchange (hat tip) was worth highlighting, not just because it’s a prime example of how NOT to interact with your customers, but because the rest of Andrews blog is so interesting. One for the feed reader, methinks.

And speaking of interacting with customers the wrong way, I’ve got a cautionary tale to tell you soon about a company I deal with. However I’ll wait for them to pay me the money they owe me (no, I’m not holding my breath) before I spill the beans. Trust me, this is a masterclass in bad P.R.

Announcing BeatsBase – Community site for DJs

Finally I can announce with a great deal of joy, that BeatsBase is live. It’s been a lot of work, but every bit has been enjoyable and Robbie has been the most fantastic client.

I’ve spoken about BeatsBase quite a bit before, so I just recommend you take a look yourself to get the lowdown. Suffice to say we’ve still got loads of ideas for the site so the work has really only just begun, but for now I’ll crack open a bottle of beer and eat this final chocolate eclair.
